It argued that the old name \u2013 which dated from 1797 \u2013 was due a change in a world where it operates in 27 countries, and that one name should be used across the group.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Of course, the name change from Norwich Union to Aviva was nothing to do with the <a title=\"FSA website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fsa.gov.uk\/pages\/Library\/Communication\/PR\/2007\/130.shtml\">\u00a31.26 million fine levied against them by the FSA <\/a>for being incompetent when it came to protecting client data and protecting against fraud that was so damaging to their reputation that they had to distance themselves from their own name.\u00a0 Of course not.\u00a0 What a crazy suggestion that would be.\u00a0 It\u2019s because the name was old.\u00a0 And they work in countries that don\u2019t know what a Norwich is.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From City AM this morning, I picked up this little nugget under their \u201cMarketing Campaign of the Year\u201d: \u00a0\u201cCelebrities do it all the time,\u201d said Norwich Union when it changed its name to Aviva.
