Super Meat Boy

Super Meat Boy is a 2D platformer known for being incredibly challenging. It is reminsent of classic 2D platformers from the 8-bit and 16-bit console era and is notable for being a game full of personal touches and general artistic flair from its creators.

Genre: 2D Platformer

Developer: Team Meat

Platforms: PC, Mac, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, PS Vita

Good for: Someone looking for an easily digestible yet challenging reaction-based experience

Less good for: Anyone who gets frustrated easily and anyone put off by ‘random’ humour

Summary:

One of notable successful indie games, Super Meat Boy has won critical acclaim at pretty much every major gaming media outlet. Its challenging nature is offset by its tight controls and forgiving design decisions in terms of unlimited attempts and the ability to start again quickly. Technical prowess aside, the game is very obviously a product of its creators and the nature of this indie project meant that there was no “publisher censorship” to hold them back from creating exactly what they wanted to.
